TRICKY WOMEN/TRICKY REALITIES 2024 INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION

Tricky Women/Tricky Realities is accepting entries for the 2024 festival edition, taking place in Vienna from the 6-10 March, 2024. TRICKY WOMEN/TRICKY REALITIES focuses on animated films made by women and/or genderqueer artists and therefore fills a unique position within the international festival landscape.
We cannot wait to see your powerful, subversive and evocative animated films! Our only parameters are that at least 50% of the film is animated and 50% of the directresses are female and/or genderqueer filmmakers.
Join us, as we exchange the laws of physics with the laws of imagination, replace the physical with the potential and mobilize the power of animation to explore and articulate tricky realities!

5) Accepted genres: Animation / Live Action combined with Animation (at least 50% Animation)
6) No re-entry: No film entered in prior Tricky Women/Tricky Realities Festivals shall be admitted
7) Female and/or genderqueer filmmakers (50% in directing position): Male co-directors are welcome.
8) Subtitles: Non-English movies should be applied with English subtitles.

Applicants should fill out/attach biography and filmography in their online form.

VR COMPETITION

Both linear and non-linear narratives with no interactive elements, to be viewed on standalone Meta Quest2. Video submissions should be in stereoscopic 180° - 360° format, and the file format mp4.

WORK/WORK AFFAIRS (IN COOPERATION WITH ARBEITERKAMMER)

This program positions labor as a lens through which we can view the world. This can include (but is not limited to) films about economic exploitation, emancipation, maternal/domestic/emotional labor and how we determine value. Films do not need to be contemporary. This program is supported by Arbeiterkammer Wien. It is a non-competitive section of TRICKY WOMEN/TRICKY REALITIES. Therefore we accept films which have been produced earlier than 2022/23.

AR COMPETITION

We accept AR works using the featureset https://trickywomen.artificialmuseum.com provided by the Artificial Museum. Submissions should consist of a project outline, with a written description of the concept and an outline of preferred elements (audio, video,...) including 1 or 2 illustrations. Materials must be submitted enclosed in a ZIP archive ("trickywomen-AR-surname.zip"), not to exceed 10 MB in size. This program explores asymmetrical power dynamics relative to gender. Relevant films could be about the body, motherhood, abortion, activists, objectification and subjective experiences of tricky realities. It is a non-competitive section of TRICKY WOMEN/TRICKY REALITIES. Films do not need to be from last two years.

Topics could include identity politics (age, disability, race, gender, sexuality etc), equality of opportunity, climate change, ecofeminism and alternative visions of a just world. It is a non-competitive section of TRICKY WOMEN/TRICKY REALITIES. Films do NOT need to be from the last two years.
