NATIONAL COMPETITION
|
The Brussels Short Film Festival is an exhibition intended for cinema lovers, both audience and professionals. The purpose is to promote and circulate short films and to generate contacts between audience, young directors and professionals.
Since 2018, the winner of the Great Prize of the national competition is eligible for consideration in the Animated
Short Film/ Live Action Short Film category of the Academy Awards® without the standard theatrical run, provided the
film otherwise complies with the Academy rules.

Opening submissions: July 7, 2022 Final deadline: March 1, 2023 Free Notification of results: March 29, 2023

Requirements: 1) Films completed after: November 1st, 2021 2) Maximum duration: 40 minutes 3) Country of production: Belgium 4) Screening format: mp4. codec ProRes - 20 to 30 Mbs - 1920 x 1080, DCP 5) Accepted genres: All
Other criteria:
6) No re-entry: Films already entered to the festival in previous years cannot be submitted again 7) Subtitles: Films have to be subtitled in English (or in French). It’s also advisable for french-speaking films to have english subtitles. 8) Student films: Belgian student films have to be submitted to the Next Generation National competition.

A Short Film Market is organized during the Festival. All the films submitted to our competitions will automatically be indexed in the market catalogue and accessible to the international programmers and TV buyers attending the market. It is highly recommended to send the film with English subtitles.
Once submitted to the committee, films can’t be removed.
The selections results will be notified online (www.bsff.be) by the end of March 2023.
